Microsoft buys Skype for $8.5 Billion

$8.5 Billion in-cash! It looks like crazy deal for me. However, it is Microsoft, the huge software company in the world, has no problem for such amount. This would be their largest acquisition after $6 Billion spending for online advertising firm aQuantive in 2007. From this deal e-bay got $2.55 Billion for its 30% stake and two co-founders got 1.9 Billion too.

What is the meaning of this deal? It doesn’t mean Microsoft is rich nor e-bay made money through their investment. It means Microsoft trying to enter mobile communication business aggressively. Moreover, this deal will help Microsoft in competing Google and Cisco in networking.

As the world has inevitably changed to mobile-web communication, this deal can be right move for Microsoft, my personal feeling, to compete Google and Apple (facetime) Voice communication services. Skype will soon be added feature in X-box, Window Phone 7 and may be, in Facebook since Microsoft is one of the Facebook’s investor.

This deal is huge. However, Skype can help both Microsoft (as a lot of observer believe that Microsoft leg behind in internet market) and Facebook. We will see more intense battle in mobile and web market for sure.

Sony Enter ‘Tablet Battlefield’

 

 

Everyone can see that there is a lot of room to improve in table technology. Already entered tablets are nowhere near to perfect and most of them didn’t even have point of differentiation from each other but I admit that some of them are very impressive especially iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom. 

 

Now, Sony prepares to enter the market with two powerful tablets namely “Sony S1” and “Sony S2” as Sony announced on 26 Apr 2011. Sony will use Android 3.0 Honeycomb operation system which is similar to Motorola Xoom; however, Sony has something to differentiate from other tablet that is it compatibility to Playstation games. Moreover, it also has unique appearance especially in ‘Sony S2”

Still, prices are not announced yet. So it is Sony that the price will be high end. Now they put a lot of hype around the product by mean of marketing and PR. If they set the reasonable prices when they launch, I would say don’t miss the chance to grab a stylish tablet.

Tablet Daydream

There are several TABLETs in market. Though I will not buy any of those, it make me confuse to choose or recommend the right one when my friends ask me to assist in their decision making. For me as well as my friend, it is like a big investment. Switching cost will be high once they buy the unsatisfactory one.

Most of the Touch Pad attracts attention from customer and prompt customer’s action to buy the product but they cannot fully satisfy the customer. Unsatisfactory result is not derived from after sales service. It is mainly triggered by product itself.

I saw a lot of people annoying after they bought iPad 1st generation. Most iPad owner switched to Galaxy Tab, however; it is also not a perfect one. Moreover, there are several touch pad come in different brand. Some attract customer with cheaper price or bigger sized screen or faster performance or attractive promotion but none of them can create higher customer satisfaction.

Several people are hoping forward to having better touch pad as well as several company are looking forward to capture market with higher customer satisfaction with better state-of-art product. There are some products going to launch soon create hype around them by using press and internet. Many Touch Pad will be launched soon and among them iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and Hp slate catch my attention. Therefore, I will make ultra-short overview on those products. Before stating my overview I would like to admit that I am not a technical geek or product engineer. I am only technological enthusiast.

According to specification, it is more like to laptop rather than internet tablet. It could be the fastest touch pad coz’ of processor but it is thicker than other tablet. It uses Windows 7 operation system so that it is convenient for bunch of Window users. (This is not relating to overview: I strongly feel that Hp should use better marketing force like Apple's that they create attention, buzz as well as prompt customer action to buy one even though their product may or may not as good as they announced)

Therefore, if you want to change your heavy laptop with lighter one, HP might be a practical one.

Motorola is widely known for its stylish design. But now they enter into tablet market with their first ever touch pad known as Motorola Xoom.

It can be regard as fabulous android tablet according to eye-catching specifications. It can be say as the world’s first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet that come with 1 GHz nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM and built in 32 GB storage. Moreover, it support micro SD card for storage expansion.

Another eye-catching point is 10.1 inch display with resolution of 1280x800 with 5 mega-pixel dual-LED back camera and 2 mega-pixel front camera.

Price is also reasonable. According to specification and price, I personally think Motorola Xoom as good product. However, quality of product cannot be judge by reading its specification. 

Specification is good. Price is reasonable. Therefore I would say go for it. However, try it before you buy.
