6.8 earthquake hits NE Myanmar

It happened on 24 march 2011. The 6.8 Magnitude earthquake knocked-down some of the towns in NE Myanmar border and killed several people. It said more than 70 people but the exact number will be hard to know coz' there is tight control of disasters news by the Government.

According to the weather channels, the epicenter was said to be in North of the Town 'Tachileik'. Buildings were swayed in most of the towns and villages. There were severe damages and collapses according to the information from locals. The earthquake was so powerful that it reached other Myanmar Cities (including Yangon and Naypyidaw), Bangkok, Vietnam and southern China.

There are series of small earthquakes still hit the area today. People are fearful and helpless. Lots of building collapsed and several people are now homeless. Most of the people have to sleep on the road. There are no food and water in seriously damaged area.
